It makes us exceptionally delighted to see that more and more foreigners attend subtitled performances at Sofia Theatre. We are honored when people from abroad, who work and live in Sofia, or are simply visiting the city, choose to be here and spend their leisure time watching our plays. We would like to thank you for your sincere interest and provide you with some more information about the shows you can see with English subtitles.
The play is an adaptation of the classic French Romantic novel by Victor Hugo. Its intriguing narrative is combined with marvelous scenography, costumes, and songs. There is also an extensive usage of literature language, which highlights the authentic representation of the story in the book. We will hardly be surprised if after seeing the spectacle, you would decide to read the book or even – do it one more time.
The performance is the first occasion when the musical from Pierce Chatter Robinson, based on James Matthew Barrie`s classic character, is presented on a Bulgarian theatrical stage. It contains costumes, decorated in a remarkable manner, along with enchanting songs, which together make the enactment a fabulous experience for people of all ages.
The show depicts the life of seven women, working in a big advertising agency. Along with their careers, the storyline digs into their personal and intimate experiences, together with the cost they have to pay in order to maintain an image of themselves for society. “Tiramisu” was the most watched spectacle of Sofia Theatre for the 2015/16 theatrical season.
The two plays are from two of America`s unrivaled masters of comedy – Woody Allen and Neil Simon. By combining humor and engaging stories, the narratives touch upon topics such as fidelity, adultery, and boredom in long-married couples. And for sure all members of the audience will find something to laugh or think about, regardless of the stage of life they are in.
The spectacle is a modern Bulgarian musical about the conflicts between teenagers and their parents. The viewers become witnesses of a fantasy time-travel to the Communist period in the Bulgarian capital – Sofia. While attempting to comprehend the desires of the young people living in that period, the show also asks the question about how people find and preserve their identities in the modern and fast-paced way of life.
The performance is a reenactment of the Ancient Greek tragedy by Sophocles. Its author, the French dramatist Jean Anouilh, alternates our perception about Creon; instead of a cruel statesman, we observe a loving relative, making all possible efforts to save a person`s life. Apart from that, the viewer is able to see the classic theme of the story – the rebellion against the powerful elite and the struggle to protect what one believes to be the right thing to do.
